Location

Seydikemer District is located in the Antalya part of the Mediterranean Region, within the provincial borders of Muğla.  It is surrounded by Kaş in the southeast, the Mediterranean Sea in the south and Fethiye in the west.

It was formed as a result of the transformation of Kemer town, located in Fethiye district, into a district and its name changed to Seydikemer in 2012.

The highest parts of Seydikemer District are located in the north and east. Butterfly Mountain, which is a continuation of Boncuk Mountains in the north, Erendağ and Akdağ in the east are remarkable elevations. Almacık Mountain is located in the southwestern part.

The district area consists of mountains, plateaus, plains and coastal areas.

Within the boundaries of Seydikemer District, traces of many civilizations can be found from past to present.  They are listed as Lukkas, Lycians, Persians, Athenians, Romans, Arabs, Byzantines, Menteşeoğulları and Ottomans.

The history of Seydikemer begins with the history of Lycia.  Early Bronze Age occupation was found in the excavations carried out by Mellink in Keratos-Semahüyük. The historical past of the city goes back to 11,000 years ago.

Among the regional delicacies of Seydikemer district, keskek is the leading one.  It is also famous for citrus and olive cultivation.  In addition, you can taste all the flavors of the Muğla region and taste different dishes.

Seydikemer is fast becoming a favourite for ex pats who want to live a more traditional Turkish lifestyle whilst still having great access to Fethiye town and its surrounding areas and a new state hospital will be finished in 2022.

The public transport is good with local dolmus and taxis that run to Fethiye Town.
