Fethiye is an extremely popular area for tourists and expats alike. It boasts picturesque scenery, lush green forests, mountainous landscapes and crystal clear turquoise waters, friendly and very helpful locals and yet still feels like home, with English widely spoken.
In this blog we will look at different areas of Fethiye, different lifestyles in each region and hopefully help you in making the best decision on which area would suit you and your family when purchasing property here.
Hisaronu is located 4km from Oludeniz, set up on a higher level and surrounded by mountains. It used to be a peaceful little village but has now merged with Ovacik creating a lively resort that comes alive during the summer season. Hisaronu also heaves with British tourists during the peak season.
The closest beaches are the stunning Oludeniz beaches including Belcekiz and the famous Blue Lagoon.
There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants with a fantastic nightlife and public transport is frequent with many stops.
Property in Hisaronu has become very popular with tourists in recent years due to its great location and an increase in bars, restaurants and the great nightlife.
Property prices in Hisaronu are quite high in comparison with other regions of Mugla, but properties bought for investment and buy to let have much higher rental demand meaning rental income is also high.
Hisaronu is a great location and has the hustle and bustle nightlife of a party village, so if you are looking for a more peaceful life, Hisaronu may not be the place for you if you are buying to reside yourself.
Ovacik is located 3km from the world famous beaches of Oludeniz and neighbors Hisaronu village. It is surrounded by lush green Pine forest covered mountains. Ovacik sits at the foot of Babadag Mountain and is much quieter than Hisaronu.
It also boasts stunning views of the valley from the top road. There are many luxury villas in Ovacik with private pools and plenty of hotels and apartment accommodation.
There are plenty of restaurants and shops in Ovacik and public transportation is regular and within walking distance.
It can become quiet during the winter time but Fethiye Town is close enough so it doesn’t pose a problem.
Ovacik is a great place for buyers looking for property, either to reside in themselves or as a buy to let option for income with high rental potential.
Calis is located just a five minute drive from Fethiye Town with a completely flat landscape, unlike Hisaronu and Ovacik.
It’s also just 40km from Dalaman International Airport meaning travel back and forth from the UK is very easy.
Calis is very popular with British expats and retirees, who call Calis their permanent home. It’s also a location that’s open year-round.
The long straight promenade is full of restaurants and bars that all serve a wide range of world cuisines.
In 2021 Calis seafront has a revamp which is very soon to finish.
Calis is a fantastic place to buy property, either as a full time home or an investment, with a promise of high yield returns. The flat landscape is also great for those with disabilities making it much easier to get out and about.
The sunset from the Calis beach is one to see, and many people venture out during the evenings to witness it.
There are vast amounts of seafront hotels and self catering apartments here and with 300 days of sunshine a year, Calis is a great choice for investors wishing to buy to let.
Calis really does tick all the boxes.
Seydikemer is located just 20 minutes drive from Fethiye Town. It’s a small town with stunning countryside and surrounded by forests and mountains.
Expats who want a more peaceful life and surroundings reside here and the properties are much more reasonably priced due to being away from the tourist resorts.
Seydikemer is a place of natural beauty and a great place for those who enjoy nature. There is a small town with shops and cafes but nothing like the resort locations. Due to becoming more popular with investors who wish to retire, and the plans for a new hospital here, prices are expected to increase in the near future.
Uzumlu is a very picturesque village located 15km from Fethiye Town. It’s a very popular location with retirees and those who prefer a quiet lifestyle. Uzumlu is renowned for its grape vines and homemade wines. Its name Uzumlu is translated to ‘grape’.
The village sits 500 meters above sea level, so it’s much cooler during the summer season.
Uzumlu is a very traditional area and much more rural than many other locations in Fethiye. You can find some lovely traditional restaurants serving real Turkish cuisine.
It’s the ideal location for investing, for a permanent home, and yet prices will continue to rise, meaning that the area is a fantastic place to invest in for the future.
Kayakoy is a very picturesque location just 8km from Fethiye Town. The famous ghost village is found here and gives the village much interest from tourists who come to visit this abandoned location.
The village itself is very tranquil and a place for those who wish to live amongst nature.
New builds are not allowed in Kayakoy but restoration of the current houses there is a great appeal to many who invest there.
The village is near Oludeniz and some magnificent landscapes and forests.
Some beautiful restaurants can be found and plenty of cafes, especially for breakfast.
In 1923, a population exchange between the Turks and Greeks meant that around 500 homes and 2 churches were simply abandoned, creating this empty ghost town that sits on the side of the mountain to this day, creating a fascinating backdrop to the village.
Faralya is an unspoilt nature reserve 20 minutes by car from Hisaronu and Ovacik, or a 10 minute boat ride from Oludeniz beach.
The nearest villages are Hisaronu, Ovacik and Oludeniz. The Faralya coastline is mainly rocky and rugged but small sandy beaches can be found.
Property in Faralya is hard to find but there are some plots that have residential planning permission. This area is protected yet has a few stunning hotels and residences. The views from Faralya are simply magnificent and the famous Butterfly Valley is located here. There are not many shops or restaurants here except for those in the hotels themselves.
So, whichever area of Fethiye you decide to reside, or invest in, you can be sure there is everything you need, and nothing ever too far away.
Fethiye is like a home from home. The locals, the food, the scenery and the stunning weather are the perfect reasons to choose Fethiye.
Many people visit Fethiye on holidays year after year and finally make the move permanently, with no regrets at all.
