There are many stunning locations in and around Fethiye that are available for walking. It’s always best to have sturdy shoes as most of the hikes around this area are hilly and can be very rocky and uneven under foot.
Walk around the Fethiye Peninsula
This walk is an 8 mile or 13km circular walk along the road that you can do either clockwise or anti clockwise. There are plenty of ups and downs but stretching your legs is definitely worth it for the stunning views you’ll experience. If you choose to do this walk in the summer, a hat would be a good idea and bring plenty of water because this walk is quite exposed. The plus point is bays such as Kuleli will be open so you can stop off for a swim, a drink or something to eat. Most hikers love this walk because it’s circular and there are almost uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean from up high and at sea level. Although this is a road walk, the road isn’t heavily used so you’ll probably only be passed by a car every 10 minutes or so. There are endless photo opportunities on this walk so definitely don’t forget your camera. There are also plenty of stop off points if you fancy a dip in the sea to cool off.
A short Hill Climb in Koca Calis
Some Fethiye walks are beach walks. This walk along Calis Beach heads straight for the hill that you can see that separates Koca Calis from Karatas Beach. A short climb up the hill in Koca Calis gives amazing views along the beaches and towards Fethiye.
Stroll to Ciftlik from Calis
This walk is not in the hiking section, but more a gentle stroll. It’s a flat walk following the route along Calis Beach through Koca Calis and onwards to Ciftlik. You can enjoy this walk and visit the market on the specific market days.
Hike from Kayakoy to Oludeniz
This walk is a bit of a tough one, but well worth it. First, the trek from Kayakoy to Oludeniz is a clamber through the ruins in the ghost town in Kayakoy then you will be on the forested mountainside, with stunning views over coldwater springs and then finally reach the Blue Lagoon in Oludeniz.
A Lycian Way Hike from Ovacik to Faralya
This is the most strenuous walk that features here and is around 14.2 km in distance. You will experience picturesque views all along the Lycian Way. There are a few inclines and declines but the views are well worth it. The Lycian Way is Turkey’s first long distance trail following roman roads, mule paths and old stony footpaths. The Lycian Ways full route is a 437.7km point to point trail. You can see plenty of wildlife here and untouched natural beauty. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, jogging, camping and backpacking.
