In Turkey, like many countries, you will come across many unfortunate homeless cats and dogs.
Both the weather conditions, and the animals need for shelter and food complicates their little lives. By helping and supporting our furry friends, who are involuntarily exposed to these adverse conditions, we can give them a more easy and happy life.
Give a bowl of food if you can.
Leftovers will be greatly appreciated by them, and a bowl of food that you leave out on the street daily where they live, will ensure to keep their tummies full leading to better health.
By leaving food out where they live in your neighbourhood will help them to survive in hot or cold weathers and give them more strength to survive.
If you can, dry cat and dog biscuits can be bought by the kilo for reasonable prices but if you would rather make their food yourself, boiled chicken, meat or rice would be a great option.
Leave out a bowl of water.
Animals, like humans, need to drink water regularly during the day. They need water all the time but particularly during the summertime when the temperatures can get very hot.
You can make our little street friends happy and healthy by leaving a bowl of water in front of your apartment or in an area where the animals live so that they can stay hydrated.
In hot countries like Turkey, air conditioning is commonly used during the summertime. From the external air conditioning units there is normally a pipe that water constantly drips from when the unit is in use. A great idea is to place a tub or bowl under this pipe so a constant supply of water is saved in the bowl for the street animals to drink.
Give them a little bit of your time.
These animals live their lives alone, fending for themselves but are always appreciative of a little love and affection.
They want to play and cuddle like our pets at home, so if you can spare a bit of your valuable time out of your day, the street animals will feel better and be more trusting towards us humans.
By sharing this love to our street animal friends they will live a more positive and happy life.
In Fethiye there are many charities that collect money and donations that provide for the street animals, so donating unwanted items or money can help. They hold coffee mornings and events that people can participate in that also helps raise money for the local charities and helps to make our little friends lives more easy.
Best of all, why not adopt one or two!!
These poor defenceless creatures deserve a long and happy life so why not end their struggle for survival and take one into your home.
Every animal deserves happiness, warmth and a cuddle so taking a street animal off the street and away from harm is a great rewarding feeling, and be sure, they will thank you for it with their love and company, hopefully for many years to come.
