Calis Beach
Calis beach is around 3km from Fethiye’s Town Center and is a long 4km stretch of coarse sand with a backdrop of tourist hotels, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. There are more picturesque beaches in the area but the sunset from Calis beach is spectacular and definitely something that should be experienced. From the Mariner in Fethiye, water taxis run across to Calis beach every half an hour during the summer season and for only a couple of Turkish Liras. You can also partake in a variety of water sports here, from kite surfing and wind surfing to sailing. This beach was also featured in the James Bond movie Skyfall.
Oludeniz
This is probably one of the finest beaches in Turkey with the most picturesque scenery. Oludeniz boasts crystal clear waters, is surrounded by Pine covered mountains, has permanently calm waters and gives a feel of being in Paradise. The name Oludeniz translated means Dead Sea. Here you will discover the Blue Lagoon, where the waters take on a turquoise color due to the rocks that lay on the seabed, reflecting off and giving a vivid blue color. There are many beach clubs and hotels along Oludeniz seafront with many cafes and restaurants. Oludeniz sits on a natural preserve and is simply beautiful with calm sparkling water, under water caves, fauna and lots of sea life in the shallow Blue Lagoon. Sea turtles can very often be seen swimming below the surface of the water. Oludeniz is located just 25 minutes from Fethiye town center and serves well with public transportation.
Sovalye Island
Sovalye Island is a completely pedestrianised island that sits 15 minutes from Fethiye. There is a water taxi service that runs from the port of Fethiye to this sleepy island. The beach is lovely and the Byzantine ruins can be viewed there. Also, you can travel round the perimeter of the island by canoe in about an hour, or even swim round in 2 hours. The experience is unique. You can paddle and swim over submerged houses, over ancient city walls, churches and a Roman cistern that was converted to a chapel during the Byzantine period. The island is dotted with small sand and shingle caves, perfect for exploring. With the exception of a Boutique Hotel and a couple of rental apartments, the buildings on Sovalye Island are all private residencies meaning no matter what time of year, this idyllic island could never be described as busy.
Kabak Island (Gemile Beach)
It’s a 30 minute walk down to Kabak Beach and only accessible on foot, so it’s best to head out early before the sun gets too hot. This beach boasts an unspoiled feel with a beautiful sandy bay. You will find a couple of small beach bars but it’s best to go prepared with everything you will need. This beach is Turkey at its most serene.
Inlice Beach
This beautiful beach is a 30 minute drive from Fethiye Town Center and does not attract hordes of tourists. You will find a restaurant that serves up lovely salads, omelettes and Turkish coffee. The sand here is dark and shale like with incredibly calm waters. You can easily spend an entire day relaxing here.
Kidrak Beach
If it’s a hidden piece of paradise you are after, Kidrak beach is the place to visit. Just a mile down the road from Oludeniz beach is this secluded bay that’s part of Kidrak National Park. There is a small fee to visit this beach but it’s definitely worth it. It’s a heavenly setting and has an out of the way feel. More popular with couples than families this beach has been nick named Paradise Beach due to its natural beauty.
