DOLMUS, THE EASY WAY AROUND

DOLMUS, THE EASY WAY AROUND

One of the most practical applications in transport in Turkey is the Dolmus. This is pretty much a minibus that picks passengers up and drops passengers off on a set route but not only stopping at bus stops. You can hail the dolmus down and it will stop for you anywhere along the original route. As long as it’s a safe place for the dolmus to stop you can board or depart. This system is very much like a multiple passenger taxi but a lot cheaper. Most dolmus’s can carry up to 15 seated passengers and around 8 standing. The word dolmus actually means ‘stuffed’ and this can often be the case during peak hours. If there are no available seats passengers will literally stuff themselves inside a bit like the London underground rail system. This is not the case at the current time due to the Covid 19 virus which does not allow any standing passengers. The drivers tend to drive fast in the cities and it can be a bumpy ride but all will do their best to help you and are always friendly. The dolmus’s here in Fethiye run every 5 minutes in the summer season but tend to get less during winter time. A kentkart, credit card or cash can be used to pay on the Dolmus.
